Lifelong resident and local business owner Taylor Harrison officially announced his candidacy for Lake Havasu City Council, bringing nearly a decade of community leadership experience to the race...
BY DAISY NELSON Today’s News-Herald
Taylor Harrison is currently gathering signatures to run for Lake Havasu City Council after picking up an election packet on Jan. 5.
This election cycle, there are three councilmember seats and one mayor seat up for grabs. Those seats are currently held by Mayor Cal Sheehy and Councilmembers Michele Lin, Jeni Coke and Jim Dolan.
The primary election is scheduled for Aug. 4. Prospective candidates must be at least 18 years old and have their packets turned in with 625 to 1,249 signatures by April 6 at the latest. The earliest they can turn paperwork in is March 7. A returned, completed packet officially designates someone as a candidate.
Harrison is 33 years old and the owner of Mohave Mist & Spa. He does not have political experience.
He currently serves as the vice president of Downtown Lake Havasu, a Builder’s Association board member, Lake Havasu City Rotary Club board member and executive co-chair for the Lake Havasu Balloon Festival. He’s also served within the Chamber Foundation for Education and Leadership and as a Chamber ambassador.
Harrison moved to Havasu in 2009 with his father in pursuit of warmer weather after living in Wisconsin. He graduated from Lake Havasu High School and ASU Havasu.
“The first time we came to Havasu, we knew it was home and were residents two short months later,” Harrison said.
He said the decision to pick up a packet was one made years ago.
“I believe now is more important than ever to have young, fresh minds involved in our city,” he said.
Harrison said he’s been “blessed with an abundance of support and positivity” from community members as he gathers signatures.
“Through all of this, I’ve seen what makes Havasu special, and I want to keep it that way,” he said. “Growth that benefits the locals, and our youth, not just the folks who spend the weekends out here. And with that, I have a passion to protect our shoreline access for all of our locals. After all, the lake is what makes Havasu so special.”

Together, we can continue building a Lake Havasu City we're proud to call home.
